On Monday, we celebrated an international holiday tradition in the Mexican way with a Rosca de Reyes (“King’s Bread”). This ring-shaped cake is cut by family and friends each year on January 6th—representing the day the three kings visited baby Jesus. When a hidden baby figurine is found by one of the participants in their piece of cake, it becomes that person’s job to bring tamales and hot chocolate to another celebration on February 2nd (which is “Candlemas”—the presentation of Christ at the temple). Arcelia brought us a Rosca de Reyes today to share the tradition, and Stephan shared his stories of a very similar tradition in France. Marc was the lucky one to find the baby figurine. He won’t be bringing us tamales, unfortunately, but we made it his turn to bring Friday morning treats this week.  – Jen
